47 Lists of Bloggers to Watch in 2010 – Check them Out!

Link To Full Story: @ProBlogger

Earlier this month we published a list of 30 bloggers to watch in 2010 that caused a lot of conversation and debate in the comments section of that post. Of course the list of bloggers were simply one persons opinion and fairly much focused around that persons interests – so a week later I invited readers to create their own ‘bloggers to watch’ lists and submit links to them in the comments of that post.

47 bloggers have created such lists so far. The great thing about the submissions is that while there are some themes there is also a lot of diversity in the lists submitted. There is everything from food bloggers to watch, to Mom bloggers to watch, to greeen bloggers to watch, to personal finance blogges to watch to diabetic bloggers to watch. While not every niche is represented it is a great celebration of the blogosphere.

As it’s been a couple of weeks since I called for posts I thought it might be time to combine all the lists of bloggers to watch into a list of posts.

I encourage you to surf through the list – find the posts you resonate with – link up to them, tweet them and add to them with your own comments and posts.

You are welcome to keep submitting your posts of bloggers to watch in your niche but I probably won’t compile the list again unless there are a lot submitted.

And now she is a best selling writer and one of the most popular people in the Internet.

Social success story

I had a chance to have a quick interview with Gretchen which I am sharing below. I hope the stories will inspire you!

Please start with the short introduction about yourself.

I am the author of THE HAPPINESS PROJECT, an account of the year I spent test-driving the wisdom of the ages, the current scientific studies, and the lessons from pop culture about how to be happier (Harper). On my blog, The Happiness Project, I write about my daily adventure and insights into happiness.

My blog launched in March 2006, and when my book hit the shelves in December 2009, it immediately shot to the top of the bestseller lists, with a debut at #2 on the New York Times list. It was spotlighted on the Today show, Time, People, Entertainment Weekly, Psychology Today, the Christian Science Monitor, and others, as well as countless blogs.

As a companion to my book and blog, I also started the Happiness Project Toolbox, a site that provides eight tools to help readers begin and track their own happiness projects.

How long did it take you to become a powerful social media user?

2. But like a lot of the folk who have been blogging for a long time, I’ve started to feel that over the last few years, that the blogosphere has just gotten too big, noisy and anonymous. I’ve started longing for the days when things were ‘smaller’, ‘clubbier’, intimate and, well, human. When the people I met were truly like-minded. This was one of the reasons why I originally started the “CDF” newsletter last year. I wanted that feeling back.

Though I’ve not emailed you guys consistently, we consistently get new sign-ups and I get emails daily that reinforce the idea that we are into the same stuff, whether we’re “artists” or not. We understand that what is gibberish to most people, is actually cool, powerful stuff to us– and somehow fits into the weird, existential angst of work, AND relationships, AND 21st Century life.

How to Extend the Profitability of an E-Book Beyond Launch Week

Link To Full Story: www.problogger.net

Much has been written about how to launch an E-book to maximise sales with a big bang in the time surrounding a launch. I wrote a few weeks back about my own $72,000 E-book launch and received a lot of feedback from readers on their own big launches.

What happens after an E-book launches?

Once all the bells and whistles of the initial offer fade – do E-books continue to sell or do you need to keep launching new ones (or re-launching the old ones) to keep turning a profit?

Side Note: We just did launch a new E-book on DPS – this one is an introduction to understanding how cameras work.

These are some of the questions I’ve been pondering lately. Don’t get me wrong – a $72,000 opening week is fantastic – but what happens next?

One Strategy I’ve had Success With

After the launch week of the portraits photography book mentioned in the post linked to above the sales of the E-book did fall dramatically. Once the opening week special price ended and some of the buzz died down sales dropped to 5-10 per day. This was expected and not something I worried too much about – however as any entrepreneur I am always interested in increasing sales so I decided to start experimenting with adding some more subtle promotions.

One strategy that I’ve used is to integrate a promotion for the E-book into my newsletter auto-responder sequence.

Last year at The Future of Web Apps (FOWA) London we invited Paul Boag, host of Boagworld and author of the Website Owners Manual, along to conduct a series of interviews with speakers from the event. Over the next few weeks we will be publishing some of these here on the blog.

First up is Kevin Rose. Following on from his FOWA keynote “9 Ways to Take Your Site from One to One Million Users” Paul and his co-host Paul Stanton asked Kevin a few questions on community, user testing and advisory roles.

This interview lasts for 19 minutes.

CSS techniques to spruce up your blog | Distilled blog

Techniques

I won’t go into too much detail about how these snippets work – they should be fairly self explanatory and working to understand them is a good exercise. Similarly, I’m not going to dwell on cross-browser fixes here, because I don’t want to start crying.

Don’t forget to open the CSS techniques demo page now, to see the techniques in action while you read the descriptions below.

Link icons

A nice easy one to start, that highlights links which pointed to external pages. It’s really as simple as this:

CSS:

a.offsite {
    padding-right: 12px;
    background: transparent url(offsite.png) no-repeat right center;
}

HTML:

<p>Please follow <a href="http://twitter.com/Distilled" class="offsite">Distilled</a> on Twitter.</p>

Putting Content in the Centre

HTML’s development has left a legacy of incorrect tags & properties that survive in the online conciousness – in particular those for horizontal / vertical alignment. I mention this quick technique because it’s correct, it’s useful, and I’ve applied it to some of the following examples, and wanted to ’show my working’ here.

CSS:

.centered{
    display: block;
    margin: auto;
}

HTML:

<img class="centered" src="kitten.jpg" />
